Join us at the Betty Jayne for an evening of live jazz on our beautiful Steinway piano with Derel Monteith and Kevin Hart!

Derel Monteith is a pianist, keyboardist, and composer based in Illinois. Derel holds a degree in jazz studies from the University of Miami and has performed with such renowned artists as Nenna Freelon, Frank Foster, the Peoria Symphony Orchestra, Greg Ward, Caroline Davis, and the Grammy-winning composer Maria Schneider. In 2015, he formed the Derel Monteith Trio, which focuses on his original compositions and instrumental covers of rock songs. In October 2019, Derel simultaneously released his debut trio album, Quantity of Life, and his debut solo album, Connemara. Early Reflections (93-94), a new version of his trio's unreleased album from the '90s, followed in December 2021.

Kevin Hart, born in Bourbonnais, Illinois, grew up playing drums, piano, and various instruments since a young age. During his college years studying music, he won numerous oustanding performer awards at various jazz festivals and performed with many legendary jazz musicians including Dizzy Gillespie, Clark Terry, Ed Thigpen, and Bob Berg. Kevin and his various groups have performed at numerous venues, festivals, and concerts throughout the Midwest since 1993, including the Iowa City Jazz Festival, Viva Chicago, Springfield Jazz Festival, Peoria Jazz Heritage Fest, Rootabaga Jazz Fest, Central Illinois Jazz Society Concerts, Peoria RiverFront CEFCU Stage Concert Series, Carl Sandburg College Concert Series, and many more. Kevin's recordings include Corazon and stylistically eclectic The Road to Everywhere, which was chosen as a recommended release in 2005 by Laura Kennedy at WGLT 89.1 FM. He's continually active with his current band Kevin Hart & the Vibe Tribe, his piano-based Kevin Hart Trio, and on the music faculty at Illinois State University, Knox College, and Parkland College.
